A bruise is the result of an injury to skin tissue, and the coloration is caused by blood leaking from damaged blood vessels into surrounding body tissue. The fading of colour from blue, purple or black to yellow marks the breaking down and absorption of that blood. There can be pain, particularly when the injury is to the skin immediately above a bone, when the blood-congested tissues will swell and stretch more tightly across the bone. Most bruises heal without attention.
Obese and anemic people are more susceptible to bruising, Some women bruise more easily during menstruation lavender oil
Aromatherapy Treatments
Some essential oils can help -Aspic-Calendula-Marjoram-Mint and Parsley. Mix 10ml (2 tsp grapeseed oil with 5-6 drops essential oil -particularly calendula, cypress or parsley - and rub gently and briefly on to the affected area. Do not massage a bruise.
Fresh Chevril-Hyssop-Lavender-Parsley or Thyme can be used as a poultice. Wash the plant, place in a bowl and pot hot water on top. Wrap in a fine handkerchief and then place on the bruise when the leaves have cooled a little.
Arnica - a tincture made from flower heads. (A.montana, the mountain daisy - is the sovereign homeopathic remedy for bruising, often used in lotion in conjunction with witch-hazel (Hamamelis virginiana, a tree). The former should only be used on unbroken skin; the latter is available from chemists as a water distilled from the leaves and the bark.
If you bruise readily, avoid stimulants like tea and coffee and eat a diet rich in vitamin C and the bioflavonoids, this will help strengthen the blood vessel walls. If the swelling and pain are severe, apply cold compress. Crush ice cubes in a towel and apply it to the area of bruising.Elevating the limb (leg or arm) can be helpful too.
